interviews

I’m still a foetus at this writing gig, and because of this I haven’t done many interviews yet.

Recently I did one for the miCoach cricket podcast.

I’d say I was pretty far from impressed with it.

David, the interviewer, was fine, he’d ask me a decent question, and then i’d give him a long winded answer with plenty of ums and bullshit thrown in.

These are the interviews I suck at.

Give me a light hearted quick jokey interview with a bunch of dudes, like I have done with Kiwi FM, and I am a superstar.

But ask me real questions, and I give these sucky long answers that seem to go on for 8 minutes with precious few good lines or jokes in them.

This was my fourth such interview, and I am not getting better.

It is obviously just something I need to work on.

I remember reading Jon Hotten’s piece on people who give such great interviews and make you feel like you have bonded with them only to then find out they have given the same interview 376 times.

I doubt I could remember to give the same interview more than once, but it would be nice to say things that people understand and remember.

After the miCoach interview I did an interview for the Times about the Oval Test.

My part of it will be the ’strayan perspective, but I am pretty sure I rambled again, and I can only hope that the writer makes my words sound kind of good.

From now on I will try and be more punchy and cool in Interviews.

Get out the information quickly, in a way that people will understand, try to entertain, and for fucks sake don’t get trapped in long winded stories that even I don’t want to hear about.
